Hunt On Our Ranch
For the first time in over a century, our fifth-generation ranch is opening select hunting opportunities to the public. TriTails operates on the historic Harrell Ranch—founded in the early 1900s and still run today by Sam Harrell. This is true working land, big country with room for wildlife to stay wild. Our ranch supports trophy elk, aoudad sheep, and mule deer, with predator hunts available for coyotes and feral hogs.

We take stewardship seriously. Our pastures aren’t overgrazed; they’re managed to stay healthy, open, and beautiful year-round. We provide water across the ranch, break ice in the dead of winter even when cattle aren’t present, grow wheat forage, and keep the land peaceful. Hunting pressure here is almost non-existent—there have only been a handful of hunts over the past decade. The animals live quietly, with very little human interference.
Because of that, we keep hunting slots extremely limited, especially for elk. If you want an opportunity on truly low-pressure ground, there are only a few openings each year.
The terrain gives you a little bit of everything. Up top, you’ll find broad flats with long lines of sight—ideal for glassing and spotting animals. From there, the land folds into rolling hills and natural drainage cuts that create natural travel routes for game. As you move south, the ranch stretches toward the Palo Duro Canyon, the second-largest canyon in America. You’ll see it from angles the public never gets—raw, quiet country far removed from the State Park overlooks.

Your guides will be Sam Harrell and Aaron Rice. Sam, the owner, personally guides hunts and knows every inch of this land. Aaron—Sam’s son-in-law—has extensive hunting experience and works the ranch daily. Both men spend their lives out here alongside the very animals you’ll be hunting, giving you insight and skill you won’t find on a commercial operation.

This is not an all-inclusive package; lodging, dining, and travel are not bundled. What we do provide is clear guidance for planning your trip—where to fly in, where to stay, and where to eat. And if requested, we can prepare a TriTails beef lunch during your hunt.
